Jean Grey has arrived!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may finally have its Jean Grey! A rumor reveals new details about how big Sadie Sink’s role will be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The mystery that has been preoccupying MCU fans over the last few months has been “Who is Sadie Sink playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?” While the rumor mill initially believed that she would be playing Jean Grey, reports have wobbled massively since she was cast, teasing everyone from Shathra to the Punisher’s sidekick.

Yet, now it seems the clock has ticked back around to 12. The rumor mill has once more settled in on Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holllywood insider Jeff Sneider recently spoke on the confusion when it comes to the actresses’ MCU role on The Hot Mic, remarking that it’s almost certain she’s playing the iconic mutant on the silver screen.

“I feel like there’s a difference between reporting on certain things during pre-production, when somebody’s casting up a movie, and then when they’re testing a movie, or it’s already wrapped…I hear that she is, in fact, playing Jean Grey.”

Sadie Sink’s Role In Spider-Man: Brand New Day

For those intently keeping track of the rumor mill for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, this report may seem odd. If Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey, then what’s going on with this “female villain?” that’s been talked about so much? According to Jeff Sneider, the role of that character was seemingly reduced after a number of high profile actresses declined to join the MCU.

“Remember we were hearing those rumors of the older female villain? Those were like legit rumors and I’d heard that basically Anne Hathaway passed. Sarah Snook passed. Once those two passed. Marvel was like, ‘Should we just beef up Jean’s role a little bit?’ So, I do think it’s the script. Sometimes you have to listen to the talent…You know, I I think that they pivoted a little bit and beefed up Jean’s role after that.”

It’s interesting to hear that, while the rumor mill was debating whether or not Sadie Sink should play Jean Grey in the MCU, Marvel Studios was working behind the scenes to use her to fill empty holes in the rest of the film. Though given how turbulent the rumor mill for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been up until now, it wouldn’t be shocking to hear leakers backtrack on this once more.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31st, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future!
