Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day going to be darker than fans expect? The latest rumor suggests the MCU may be taking a page from the character’s darkest outings.
If there’s one thing fans want out of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s edge. This may seem silly, given the MCU was always lauded for not being as bone-hurtingly serious as their counterparts at DC Studios. However, the jovial tone of Tom Holland’s freshman trilogy as Spider-Man left many fans hungry for something more mature starring the hero.
Hopes were raised when it was revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day would feature the return of Michael Mando’s Scorpion and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. However, before fans could rejoice too much, it was also revealed that the Hulk would be making an appearance. This, along with dozens of conflicting reports from the rumor mill, left many fans confused about what the tone of the MCU’s next film would actually be.
Spider-Man Gets Darker Than Dark
Insight on the film’s tone came from a rumor by DanielRPK. The insider confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is setting out to be darker than Tom Holland’s prior excursions in the MCU. He also drew parallels between the film and projects like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Kraven’s Last Hunt, two projects known for their angst (for better, or for worse, depending on who you ask).
It’s still unclear who the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day would be. Once those reports come out, it’ll likely shed even more clarity on this rumor when it comes to the direction the film is taking. Though, even if the tone doesn’t land with anyone, an attempt to evolve Tom Holland’s hero in the MCU is something that should be commended. Especially when he remains the franchise’s one true money maker!
