Is J. Jonah Jameson making his grand return to the MCU? A rumor regarding Spider-Man: Brand New Day suggests that J.K. Simmons may reprise his iconic role!
Spider-Man: No Way Home brought a lot of characters from the webhead’s pantheon into the MCU proper. However, perhaps the most surprising of the inclusions (partially because the rumor mill didn’t leak it beforehand) was the return as J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. While certainly a new take on the character, it was a fun inclusion for longtime fans.
However, it seems the character’s cameo may end up being more than JUST a cameo. According to a rumor from insider DanielRPK, J.K. Simmons is officially set to return as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This would mark his second appearance as the character in the MCU, cementing him as the main actor playing the character going forward.
Who Is Playing J. Jonah Jameson In The MCU?
While the rumor that J.K. Simmons will be playing J. Jonah Jameson for the long run in the MCU may seem exciting to some, his return is bittersweet to others. There’s no denying that Simmons plays a fantastic Jameson. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is meant to be a fresh start for Tom Holland’s take on the webhead. Having Simmons reprise his iconic role may detract from that “Freshness” by, not just tying it to the last trilogy, but also tying it to a whole other franchise!
Of course, it’s possible that this rumor is false, or that J.K. Simmons will be recast as J. Jonah Jameson following Spider-Man: Brand New Day. If true, one can’t help but question who could take up the beloved role in the MCU. Some popular suggestions from fans include Scrubs star John C. McGinley and House actor Hugh Laurie.
