The cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home reacted to the viral mistake from the film’s second trailer.
We’re in the endgame for Spider-Man: No Way Home theories and speculation. The film is set to hit cinemas later this week and has already been lauded by critics who got a chance to see the MCU sequel early. Rumors have suggested since the film’s production that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are set to return as their respective Peter Parkers, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
When an international trailer for the film was released, a quick shot showed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man swinging into battle against the five iconic villains. If you looked closely, you could see that the Lizard (leaping in the air) was being kicked by someone or something. Of course, there was no one beside Holland’s Spidey. This mistake went viral, leaving many to speculate that either Garfield of Maguire’s Spider-Men were joining Holland in battle, and were kicking the Lizard. Marvel has utilized this digital trick before, namely erasing key elements and scenes from the Avengers trailers, so it isn’t out of the question to speculate.
Just before the film’s worldwide premiere, the cast of Spider-Man: No Way Home sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the highly-anticipated sequel. Kimmel then brought up the footage, inquiring the cast about what was happening with the Lizard. Ned Leeds actor Jacob Batalon broke into laughter at the sight of the footage.
Tom Holland kept his cool and insisted that “it’s a bird” hitting Lizard. Benedict Cumberbatch followed up by saying that the Lizard was probably becoming self-conscious about his hygiene mid-battle.
“To me, I think it’s just [Lizard] realizing, ‘Wow, I need to use some deodorant.'”
Batalon followed up by saying Kimmel is looking too deep into the footage.
“There’s definitely some debris from the statue, Jimmy. You’re reading too into it.”
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming film:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.
