Marvel Studios has been cleaning up at the MTV Awards, with big wins for the stars of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Black Widow and Loki.
The winners of 2022’s MTV Movie & TV Awards were announced on Sunday, June 5, and it was a good night for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nominees for the awards are decided by MTV producers and executives, with members of the public given the deciding vote on the award winners. The MCU proved to be as popular with fans as ever, bringing home awards for Best Movie, Best Performance in a Movie and Best Hero, amongst others.
And The Award Goes To…
Spider-Man: No Way Home was one of the big winners of the night, winning Best Movie. The film’s star Tom Holland won the award for Best Performance in a Movie. No Way Home marked Holland’s third solo outing as Peter Parker in the MCU and his sixth time in the role overall. The film notably brought back leading cast members from past Spider-Man franchises in a multiverse-spanning plot.
Black Widow‘s Scarlett Johansson took home the award for Best Hero. The film was the only time Johansson led a solo movie as Black Widow and marked her final appearance in the role, after previously featuring in all of the Avengers movies, the last two Captain America movies and Iron Man 2.
Loki‘s Sophia Di Martino, who appeared as the Loki variant Sylvie in the Disney Plus series, won the Breakthrough Performance award for her role in the series. Loki also won the award for Best Team for Di Martino’s Sylive, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Agent Mobius. Season 2 of Loki is currently in the works, though an official release date has not yet been announced.
Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s Zendaya, who played MJ in the Marvel movie, also won the award for Best Performance in a Show for her role as Rue Bennett in HBO’s Euphoria.
