Spider-Man: No Way Home is expected to have the highest opening in the COVID era with $150 million this weekend domestically.

Box office projections during the COVID pandemic have been a tricky one to nail down, with films happy to cross $100 million. This is far from when major films were hitting $200 million-plus in their opening weekend. Spider-Man: No Way Home appears to have the most realistic shot of hitting that figure based on recent projections.

Early projections for Spider-Man: No Way Home had the film at $190 million to $250 million. Variety now reports that they see No Way Home debuting to at least $150 million domestically. Sony is being modest with their $130 million prediction. No film has opened to over $100 million during the pandemic, but Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage is currently the highest earner with $90 million back in October.

Here is the synopsis for Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and Jamie Foxx, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the Sony film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
