Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Teen Titans Go! To the Movies have both been submitted for the best-animated feature Oscar category.

A live-action or animated comic book film has never been nominated for best picture but that could change with next year’s Oscars. According to The Hollywood ReporterTeen Titans Go! To the Movies and the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse were among the 25 films submitted for the best-animated feature category. The 2019 Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22, 2019, and the 91st Academy Awards ceremony takes place February 24, 2019.

Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, & Rodney Rothman from a script written by Phil Lord, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse features the voice talents of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Jake Johnson, Liev Schreiber, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Lily Tomlin.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on December 14, 2018.
