Disney Eyes Single Oscar Nomination For ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Avengers Infinity War Marvel Oscars Black Panther Chris Evans

After campaigning for Black Panther to receive Oscar nominations in every category, Disney makes push for just one with Avengers: Infinity War.

According to Disneystudioawards.com, the mouse is only asking voters to consider the mega Marvel mashup for just one category. The film that slaughtered box office records and was the triumphant culmination of ten years of churning out consistent hit films is not getting the serious awards push that Black Panther is getting. The film that came out prior to Infinity War is listed on the same site for voters to consider it for pretty much every category. The third Avengers film is only looking to acquire Oscar gold in the category of VFX. The film does contain a lot of elements going on at once, most of which if you are not MCU savvy would make the film less enjoyable. This does not take away from the effects in the film. The VFX work is well done and is definitely deserving of some recognition in that department.

It makes sense that there are no considerations for acting as there are so many parts with not many getting enough screen time to really showcase a solid argument for contention. The argument could be made for Zoe Saldana as Gamora, or even for Josh Brolin as Thnaos, but to be honest, those seem like longshots in the upcoming awards season. Consideration for Sound Editing and Mixing categories are two other awards the Academy should consider as well. Either way, Avengers: Infinity War was a great superhero flick and fans everywhere will have to see how Earth’s Mightiest Heroes undo the Snappening when Avengers 4 hits theaters next year as well as if it can convince voters that it is deserving of VFX Oscar glory.

Do you think Infinity War deserves more than just one Oscar nomination? Which awards do you think the mega Marvel mashup should be considered for? Please your thoughts in the comments below.
