Spider-Man star Tom Holland recently shared his excitement for the upcoming Uncharted film.
The Uncharted film has been a long time coming but it has finally locked down its star in Spider-Man actor Tom Holland. An Uncharted film was commissioned around the same time the video-game debuted in 2007. Since then, the Uncharted film has had a myriad of directors and screenwriters attached, all of whom ventually left the project due to scheduling or creative issues. The most recent development for the Uncharted film has been Spider-Man star Tom Holland hopping in the role of Nathan Drake.
The Uncharted film is now set to be an origin story that would eventually lead into the games, as well as take advantage of Tom Holland growing into the role. In the video-game, Nathan Drake is roughly in his early 30s, whilst in the Uncharted film, he’s poised to be in his early 20s, the same age as Spider-Man star Tom Holland. Despite teen icon Tom Holland being attached to the project, the film has already lost two directors. Recently, Spider-Man Tom Holland spoke to IGN andd just how excited he is to be taking on the role of Nathan Drake.
“I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.”
It’s certainly interesting that the Uncharted film is taking the route of an origin story. For those who are trepidatious of watching a video-game oriented project, knowing that the film isn’t directly linked to the video-games might ease. The Spider-Man actor also discussed how the Uncharted script is fantastic. The script is written by Joe Carnahan, who has previously directed The A-Team and The Grey.
“I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read. It really, really jumps off the page.”
At this point, one just has to hope that the Uncharted film actually makes it on the big-screen. With Spider-Man actor Tom Holland on board, the project is being fast tracked by Sony. All it needs at the moment is a director who is capable of bringing the famed video-game franchise to the big screen.
