Spider-Man is seeing red! Deadpool and Mephisto are just two of the biggest names in a new report about Marvel’s plans for the beloved web-slinger.
The rumor mill has given fans quite a lot of interesting insight into Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, none of it seems to be cohesive. The film itself seems fun, certainly, but there’s nothing larger that it appears to be building up to. This is in contrast to the original trilogy, which saw Spider-Man going from supporting sidekick to a true-blue hero.
And that seems to be because the folks at Marvel aren’t exactly settled on what’s next for their most iconic hero. A rumor from Hollywood insider Alex Perez atThe Cosmic Circus gives some insights on what characters the studio wants Spider-Man to team up with next. And the two biggest names are Mephisto (then again, what rumor DOESN’T have Mephisto?) and the Merc with a Mouth himself: Deadpool.
“This is very, very early… But Deadpool is the top one thrown around. The logistics aren’t ‘impossible,’ but very, very tricky and difficult given the current nature of Sony’s deal. But if anyone could pull it off, it’s Ryan Reynolds. Mephisto is another character (I can already hear the fans screaming now).”
A Worrying Future For Spider-Man
However, it seems as though the few things Marvel IS putting into place may have fans worried. The rumor continues that there is one surprising face that’s set to make its debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. And while Alex Perez didn’t explicitly say what villain it was, they did highly suggest that the Jackal could appear to kick off the Clone Saga.
“And there’s one more character, who pops up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, whose role I hope remains at the level of the Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Homecoming, because if it goes even remotely close to a certain Spider-Man storyline from the 90s which Spidey fans have dubbed the worst storyline/saga ever, we might start seeing double.”
Before fans start losing it, it’s important to put this rumor in context for Marvel’s future for Spider-Man. This will likely be Tom Holland’s last trilogy as the character, and we doubt that Marvel will recast him for future installments. Doing a Clone Saga could be a clean way to kill off Spider-Man for Miles Morales’ origin, while also letting Holland right off into the sunset on a happy note.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31st, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future!
