Spider-Man: Far From Home concept artist Ryan Meinerding has revealed unused designs for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio.

After years of waiting, Spider-Man: Far Far From Home finally granted the wish of fans who wanted to see the wall-crawler go head-to-head with Mysterio in a live-action feature film. This particular version of Mysterio was portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal and was depicted as a disgruntled former employee of Tony Stark who sought to replace the late hero.

Now, concept artist Ryan Meinerding has taken to his official Instagram account to share designs for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio that were ultimately passed on for Spider-Man: Far From Home. As Meinerding explains in the caption, he had to try to create a design for Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio that felt inspired by the artwork of Steve Ditko from the Spider-Man comics.
