Is Spider-Noir part of the Spider-Verse? Showrunner Oren Uziel reveals where the series sits within the canon of the beloved animated films.
The suggestion that Nicolas Cage would be playing a live-action version of Spider-Man Noir would’ve been enough to send you to a mental asylum in the early 2010s. However, thanks to the success of the Spider-Verse films, the Spider-Noir series is shaping up to be one of the biggest shows in the first half of 2026.
However, even though Spider-Noir only exists because of how popular the character was in Spider-Verse, there’s been a lot of confusion about whether or not they’re the same character. Some claim they have to be since Nicolas Cage is reprising his role, while others point out that how he acts in the series is entirely different than how he acts in the films.
The True Timeline Of Spider-Noir
Leading up to the series’ debut, showrunner Oren Uziel actually spoke on this vector of speculation. While speaking with Empire magazine, he revealed that the version of the character seen in Spider-Noir is entirely different from that in Spider-Verse, even though Nicolas Cage is playing both incarnations of the beloved hero.
“Same character, different universe. It’s a different flavor of that character, even though it’s still Nic’s voice. It’s not a continuation of Into the Spider-Verse. Once Phil and Chris introduced the idea of the multiverse, I think you’re allowed to take things and make them your own.”
Given how long the Spider-Verse franchise has been in development limbo, it makes sense that Oren Uziel would craft something new for the Spider-Noir series. Nicolas Cage is also known for making wild, eclectic swings in his career, so it’s not likely he would have signed on for the project if it was simply more of the same.
