Lee Jung-jae may soon join the Marvel universe! A new rumor points to the Squid Game star being eyed for an MCU role following his work on The Acolyte.
Lee Jung-jae has had an absolutely fantastic few years. For many, he became the face of Korean television in the west thanks to his starring role as Song Gi-hun in Netflix’s Squid Game. Since then, the actor has been able to parlay the show’s meteoric wise into a number of prominent roles, including the character of Jedi Master Sol in The Acolyte.
It seems that, following The Acolyte‘s cancellation, Lee Jung-jae may be jumping the river from Star Wars to the Marvel universe. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently posted a rumor to social media teasing that the Squid Game star is in talks for an undisclosed role in the MCU. This is actually the second time Jung-jae has been rumored to join Disney’s blockbuster machine, with DanielRPK reporting all the way back in 2022 that he was in talks to join one of their projects.
Who Could Lee Jung-jae Play In The MCU?
The biggest Marvel character floated for Lee Jung-jae to play the last time this rumor floated around was Mister Negative. It makes sense, given Mister Negative is one of the most prominent Asian villains in Marvel’s catalogue and Spider-Man is setting the stage for a more street-level trilogy in the MCU. However, given Lee Jung-jae is Korean and Mister Negative is Chinese, it’s not likely he’ll take on the role unless Marvel drastically changes the character to fit the Squid Game star.
Otherwise, Marvel doesn’t have many Korean characters that could be played by Lee Jung-jae in the MCU. The only prominent players fitting the description of the Squid Game actor are Amadeus Cho’s father Phillip Cho, and original Juggernaut Jin Moon-Ho. Though, more likely than not, the studio will simply create an original character for The Acolyte star to play if he does find his way into the MCU.
