Solo: A Star Wars Story star Alden Ehrenreich is open to returning to the role of Han Solo but only if the story feels right.
Solo: A Star Wars Story was sadly a film that had a lot stacked against it. It was a film that some would argue nobody wanted and was plagued with a number of behind the scenes production issues that resulted in original directors, Chris Miller and Phil Lord being replaced by Ron Howard. Ron Howard reportedly had to reshoot a great deal of the film, bumping up its budget to around $275M.
The end result was a film that garnered mostly positive reviews but failed at the box office, only earning $392M worldwide. This ultimately prompted Disney and Lucasfilm to shut down similar projects and put more concentration on the company’s new streaming service, Disney+. But Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich is still willing to portray the character.
While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Alden Ehrenreich was asked if he was willing to return to the role of Han Solo. He confirmed that he was but it the story would actually have to evolve him into the character we saw at the start of Star Wars: A New Hope:
“I would. It would have to be the right version of it. What’s cool and kind of free, in a way, is the real fun of [Han Solo], my favorite part of that character, is something that kicks in at the end of the movie. It’s when he becomes that guy at the end, that’s the guy we love. So getting to that, and going from there is interesting, so we’ll see. But I think now they’re being so inventive with how they’re using Star Wars and putting out stories in a different way that maybe I could see some out of the box interesting iteration of it somewhere. We’ll see, who knows?”
