Jon Favreau, producer and showrunner for the upcoming Star Wars series The Mandalorian is currently celebrating his 52nd Birthday, and he just got a surprise visit from none other than the franchise’s creator, George Lucas.
Favreau shared a photo of him on the set of The Mandalorian where he is standing right next to Lucas in yet another tease at some of the set and props of the highly-anticipated series that will be available exclusively on Disney’s upcoming streaming service.

Even after retiring from Lucasfilm, it is always nice to see Lucas visit the sets of the newer films (or in this case, television series) to get a sense at what the next generation of storytellers are bringing to his iconic galaxy far, far away.
The new series has been written by Jon Favreau who also serves as executive producer along with Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni, Colin Wilson, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Karen Gilchrist will co-executive produce. In addition to executive producing, Filoni has also been confirmed to direct the first episode with additional episodes helmed by Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
Here’s the official synopsis for The Mandalorian:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Warsuniverse. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian will debut exclusively on Disney’s upcoming direct to consumer streaming service, which is expected to launch by the end of 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
