It seems that we won’t be seeing Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as John Boyega has confirmed that the silver-helmeted baddie is, in fact dead.
During the panel for Star Wars: Episode IX, John Boyega the subject of Captain Phasma was brought up. Some fans undoubtedly hoped that the character might make a return for the upcoming film. John Boyega, however, crushed those hopes definitively by saying that the character was, in fact, dead:
There’s some form of closure. Phasma? She dead.
From the sound of things, John Boyega wanted the idea of Captain Phasma’s return out of people’s heads!
As you might recall, Captain Phasma had a relatively small role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She captured John Boyega’s character, Finn, during a botched mission and was attempting to execute him when another starship crashed through hers at lightspeed. This allowed Finn to escape and fight Captain Phasma in a duel. The last we saw of her, however, Captain Phasma fell through the fiery wreckage of Supreme Leader Snoke’s ship, making her survival highly unlikely. But it seems that John Boyega wanted to make sure that fans knew this to be the case.
