According to MakingStarWars.net, production on the upcoming live-action Star Wars series written and produced by Jon Favreau is set to begin next week. The website also has our first look at construction on the sets that will be used during filming.
The highly-anticipated series will be the first live-action series set in the Star Wars galaxy. The franchise has had two canon animated series in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels along with a third, Star Wars Resistance premiering in October. Favreau’s series will be available exclusively on Disney Direct – the upcoming Disney Streaming Service.
The series is set to take place between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, and is heavily rumored to be following the Mandalorians after the fall of the Empire.

Favreau has been involved in the Star Wars galaxy in the past, having been part of The Clone Wars and most recently in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Perhaps best known from geeks for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Favreau’s credits behind the camera also include Chef, The Jungle Book and the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Lion King.
2019 is shaping up to be a massive year for the galaxy far, far away. Obviously, the release of Episode IX – the final chapter in the Skywalker Saga is going to be a major priority for Lucasfilm given that they are coming off the heels of the successful, yet polarizing reception to The Last Jedi and the disappointing box office numbers of Solo. But along with Episode IX, a brand new season of The Clone Wars will premiere on Disney Direct.
Are you excited to see what Jon Favreau brings to this new series? Given that he is a massive fan of the franchise since childhood as well as his talents as a storyteller, he is certainly a perfect fit for this brand new series.
