New plot details for Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian have reportedly been revealed and tease an Outer Rim setting for the first ever live-action Star Wars series coming to Disney+.
During the Solo premiere, Favreau revealed the series would take place seven years after the events of Return of the Jedi. However, according to a tweet from The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit, the series might actually take place five years after Return of the Jedi. Kit goes on to write that the series takes place in the, “Outer Rim, where people don’t know and don’t care that the Empire has fallen. Gives them latitude in telling certain stories.” So it seems the new series will not deal with the formation or politics of the New Republic. This report also aligns with the official synopsis for the series and rumors that the show may feature the return of Tatooine.
Sources tell me the story is set about 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and is set in the Outer Rim, where people don't know and don't care that the Empire has fallen. Gives them latitude in telling certain stories. https://t.co/U0LT3WQsZ2

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Caranao, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian does not have an official release date, however, the series is expected to debut with Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, which is expected to launch by the end of 2019.
