A new fan theory suggests Finn’s force powers were first hinted at in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Disney and Lucasfilms’ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker insinuated that John Boyega’s Finn was spending much of the film trying to tell Rey that he was force sensitive. The filmmakers later confirmed that this is John Boyega’s Finn was trying to tell Rey, but one Star Wars fan suggested the groundwork for the ex-stormtrooper’s force powers was established in The Last Jedi.
The fan points to the scene towards the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, wherein Rey uses the force to remove rocks blocking to exit to a cave that John Boyega’s Finn and the Resistance were trying to escape from. Delighted to see Rey for the first time in The Last Jedi, John Boyega’s Finn rushes to embrace his friend and the rocks can be seen moving to clear a path for him. While it was assumed that Rey was the one moving the rocks, one Star Wars fan suggests John Boyega’s Finn was actually responsible without even realizing it.
