Did The Batman just lose a major star? Reports suggest that Stellan Skarsgård has turned down a key role in the long-awaited sequel.
Casting news about The Batman has slowly been trickling out among the major outlets. Both Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan have been said to be in talks to join the sequel (if not having officially signed on), with the rumor mill seeming to settle on them playing Gilda Dent and Harvey Dent (aka Two-Face) respectively.
However, for those familiar with the story that The Batman is likely to adapt, that means the sequel is still missing one important one: Christopher Dent. And it’s now come out who was being eyed to take on the role. According to a rumor from The Hot Mic, Stellan Skarsgård was offered the chance to join the sequel as Christopher Dent, but ultimately turned down the opportunity.
Why Did Stellan Skarsgård Pass On The Batman?
There’s truly an endless amount of reasons as to why Stellan Skarsgård would turn down joining The Batman if this rumor is true. The most prominent point of speculation is that the actor is nominated for an Oscar for his role in Sentimental Value. As such, it’s possible that he’s waiting to see what opportunities arise from that rather than immediately signing on to a sequel.
Then again, it’s possible that the role just isn’t appealing. A prior rumor suggested that Brad Pitt turned down the role of Christopher Dent prior to Stellan Skarsgård joining the conversation. Given the character likely won’t have a large role in The Batman sequel, it’s possible that big name actors don’t want to commit to a shoot as big as that for a small part.
