Is Stephen Amell on his way back to the DC Universe? The actor gives his thoughts on playing Green Arrow for so many years, as well as the chances for his return.
For quite a few years while the cinematic side of the brand was trying to find its footing, Stephen Amell was the face of the DC Universe. His version of Green Arrow sat at the center for what may be by runtime the largest cinematic universe to exist (in the west). This has left many wondering if there may be a chance for him to return to the role, especially with the Multiverse in vogue.
Stephen Amell spoke on his time as Green Arrow during a recent panel at Motor City Comic Con attended by Screen Rant. When asked if there was any interest in making a return to the DC Universe, Amell reflected on his time as the iconic character, putting particular emphasis on how fans have reacted to his time in the years following his departure.
“I love playing the Green Arrow, I love playing Oliver Queen. But I think, more than that, I like how it makes people feel when I come to these conventions, or just when I’m walking around on a daily basis.”
“Not a day goes by that someone doesn’t talk to me about Arrow, the Green Arrow, Oliver Queen. But they always then relate it back to their experience with the series, how it made them feel, whether they bonded with a sibling, or a parent, or a friend with the series.”
Will Stephen Amell Return As Green Arrow?
It’s certainly true that Stephen Amell’s version of Green Arrow is likely THE definitive hero for fans of a certain age, in a similar way to how Tom Welling’s Superman was. However, more to the point when it comes to a potential return as Oliver Queen, Amell admitted that he was open to reprising his role in the DC Universe if fans were up to it.
“[I’d be] down to do anything that makes the fans happy”
With James Gunn wanting to forge a new path for the DC Universe, both on the big and small screen, it’s not likely that Stephen Amell will return as Green Arrow anytime soon. However, as the Arrowverse continues to hit more anniversaries of drawing to a close, it’s certainly possible that a reunion special is in the cards.
