Avengers: Doomsday is getting DARK! A rumor suggests that Steve Rogers will experience one of the darkest moments in the history of the MCU.
One of the biggest complaints with the MCU in recent years is that it has felt toothless. Many argue that the very concept of a multiverse rids the story of any stakes, with the return of Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom having the same face as Tony Stark being key points of evidence. While one could debate whether or not that argument holds water, it’s still true that Avengers: Doomsday has to take some big swings to counter this perception among fans.
And this rumor certainly provides a big swing. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello suggests that Avengers: Doomsday is going to do something the MCU has never done before: kill a child. According to the report, Doctor Doom will kill James Rogers, the son of Steve Rogers, in front of his dad as vengeance for the dark fate of his own family.
Steve Rogers’ Arc In Avengers: Doomsday
This rumor certainly sets up an interesting arc for Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. His arc in prior MCU projects has been about finally learning to step away from the fight to focus on his family. With his family now gone, it’s likely the question looming over him during the film is what exactly is “justice” when faced with an overwhelming evil?
Of course, as with every rumor, fans should take this with a grain of salt. Most scoopers have dodgy histories when it comes to accuracy, and murdering a child on screen is likely a step too far for the MCU, especially in what might be their biggest movie in years. Though it is still possible (if not likely) that something happens to take Steve Rogers’ son out of the picture in Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
