Is Steven Yeun finally joining the MCU? The former Thunderbolts star reveals if he’s considering giving the franchise another chance.
There’s a lot of great “What If’s” in the pantheon of the MCU. Tom Cruise as Iron Man, Joaquin Phoenix as Doctor Strange, Glenn Howerton as Star-Lord. However, none came as close to happening as Steven Yeun as Sentry. The only reason he wasn’t in the final product is because the production for Thunderbolts was delayed by the strikes, with the new filming dates overlapping with another project Yeun had committed himself to.
Yet even though Steven Yeun isn’t playing the Sentry in the MCU, fans still would like to see him put on some colorful tights. The actor was asked if he’d ever consider giving the franchise another shot after being recast in Thunderbolts during a recent interview with MovieWeb. Yeun admitted that he did see the movie, and that he’s certainly open to giving another role a shot.
“I did [watch Thunderbolts]. I love Jake, Jake Schreier, incredible human director. I did, and I never say never. I’m around.”
Who Could Steven Yeun Play In The MCU?
Perhaps the most popular fancast for Steven Yeun following him being recast as Sentry in Thunderbolts is Mister Negative. The only issue there is that Yeun is Korean, while Mister Negative is traditionally portrayed as Chinese. Given how much controversy the MCU has been in when it comes to race-swapping certain characters, that might not be the best move.
But there is another Spider-Man villain Steven Yeun might be perfect for: Norman Osborn. Yeun proved that he has the ability to play an unhinged paternal figure thanks to Beef, also helmed by Jake Schreier. So it’s possible that he could be recruited to play the MCU’s maniacal magnate in a future Thunderbolts installment.
