The early rumor mill for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was absolutely wild. Basically any character that had ever been inked in a Spider-Man comic was up for grabs: Knull, Silver Samurai, even Lady Bullseye where all reportedly being cast for the project. However, perhaps the most interesting piece of casting speculation was the idea that Steven Yeun, formerly in line to play Sentry in the MCU, would be taking up the role of Mister Negative.
Currently, there’s no evidence Mister Negative is going to appear or even be referenced in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In addition, Steven Yeun is Korean, while the villain is Chinese – a controversial casting distinction the MCU would rather avoid. Still, some fans still wonder if the actor was snubbed for a second role in the MCU.

Now on the press tour for Invincible, Steven Yeun has been catching up on every rumor that’s been plaguing his SEO results over the past few months – which includes his reported casting as Mister Negative. Sadly, it seems as though the actor was never involved in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, even if he’s still open to joining the MCU.

Of course, even if Steven Yeun isn’t likely to play Mister Negative in the MCU, that doesn’t mean he can’t still play a role in a potential Spider-Man: Brand New Day sequel. His range gives casting directors plenty of characters to work with. Some fan-favorite options include Sandman, Hammerhead, and even Norman Osborn.
