The story of Hawkins is set to end with the release of Stranger Things season 5. However, the universe seems to continue on with a new animated series set to premiere on Netflix.
The Stranger Things announcement comes straight from Netflix, with the streaming giant revealing that the animated spin-off will be developed by Eric Robles and Flying Bark Productions. Both Robles and Flying Bark Productions have primarily created children’s cartoons in the past, with the latter recently producing the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur show for Disney. However, according to the Duffer Brothers, that’s exactly why they chose Robles for the job:
“We’ve always dreamed of an animated ‘Stranger Things’ in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling,” the Duffer brothers said in a statement. We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”
The Duffer Brothers are set to serve as executive producers for the new animated show. No other details have been released regarding the project, including a potential release date. Assuming the show is set to debut after the final season of Stranger Things, fans should likely not expect anything before 2025.
