The final season of Stranger Things is finally in production at Netflix. Executive producer and director Shawn Levy teased the scope of season 5, saying it will be on the level of the biggest blockbusters.

It’s no secret that Stranger Things has been a monster hit for Netflix. With the show coming to a close with its final season, especially one fans will need to wait at least 3 years after season 4 to see, the pressure is on for Shawn Levy and the rest of the team to stick the landing. Luckily for fans, Levy teased the massive scope for season 5:

“There’s no way to be contiguous with Season 4, and not, frankly, expand scale and depth,” Levy tells Total Film Magazine. “It’s major, major, cinematic storytelling that happens to be called a TV series. ‘Stranger Things 5’ is as big as any of the biggest movies that we see.”

Given season 4 featured flesh warlocks, giant hell fissures, and vampire bats defeated by the power of rock, it’s unclear how Stranger Things can top itself with season 5. However, with Shawn Levy continuing to help helm the series and Netflix willing to pump an unlimited amount of money into the season, it’s certain the series will make history with its ending. For better or for worse.
