Is Sue Storm key to the team’s success in the MCU? A producer reveals what role the Invisible Woman will play in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The Invisible Woman is by far the least utilized of Marvel’s First Family, at the very least when it comes to prior live-action adaptations. Given Reed Richards is often framed as the lead character, Sue Storm is often left as simply being his supporting partner. This left many to wonder how exactly the MCU would handle the iconic character, especially as The Fantastic Four: First Steps may be the last version of the team fans see for a long, long time.

The answer seems to be, perhaps shockingly for the MCU, comic-accurate. When speaking about the film to Collider, producer Grant Curtis broke down how the film approaches Sue Storm. Curtis explains that the Invisible Woman has always served a foundational role in the original comics, and they sought to reflect that position in the creation of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

“If you do go back through the comics, you realize that Sue Storm is arguably the leader of the Fantastic Four, because without Sue Storm, everything falls apart. We had the desire to date aesthetically, but in terms of character and treatment, who should be front and center, it’s like, hey, let’s tell the best story possible.”

Is Sue Storm The Leader Of The Fantastic Four?

This quote actually lines up with prior reports suggesting that Sue Storm would be the main character of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. If true, it’ll certainly be a refreshing change of pace, with the Invisible Woman joining the coveted ranks of the MCU’s leading ladies. Especially as the project likely wants to distinguish itself at past (failed) attempts to adapt the super team.

Given Sue Storm is also confirmed to be giving birth in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, her journey will likely focus on motherhood and family. Though given the future of the MCU, it’ll be interesting to see how the movie ties the Invisible Woman’s journey of acceptance into a neat little bow without all of that hope being stripped away at the 11th hour by Doctor Doom!

The Fantastic Four: First Steps opens on July 25, 2025. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
