David Ayer has revealed some new changes that 2016’s Suicide Squad underwent throughout the film’s troubled production.

Suicide Squad evolved greatly during the film’s post-production process, however, Ayer recently shared some new details regarding changes made to the film during its reshoots. When asked by a fan on Twitter, Ayer confirmed that he originally intended for Diablo to survive in the script. The character heroically sacrificed himself during the fight against Incubus in the film’s third act.

In addition, Ayer also revealed that the original plan was for Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Will Smith’s Deadshot to become a couple in the film.

Ayer has been revealing plenty of new information regarding the 2016 film lately, including debunking rumors, that a Steppenwolf reveal was shot for the film. The director also responded to a fan’s criticism that Harley Quinn appeared to be overly sexualized in the film.

The first film followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast also included Jared Leto as The Joker. A Suicide Squad sequel titled The Suicide Squad is in the works from director James Gunn. Gunn will, however, be bringing a whole new take on the supervillain team-up, featuring a mostly new cast.

Written and directed by James Gunn, the sequel stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.

The Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on The Suicide Squad and you can also subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content in the future!
