Obi-Wan Kenobi star Sung Kang expressed excitement over starring in the upcoming Star Wars show.
One of the most exciting shows in Disney Plus’ Star Wars roster is Obi-Wan Kenobi, a limited series that’s set ten years after Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith. The series will focus on Ewan McGregor’s Jedi master watching over a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. In addition to McGregor returning to the role, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader actor Hayden Christensen will also be reprising his role, a first in over a decade. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse: Owen and Beru Lars, will be reprising their roles as Luke’s guardians as well. The Star Wars series boasts an impressive cast list which includes Uncut Gems‘ Benny Safdie, Game of Thrones‘ Indira Varma, Fast and Furious‘ Sung Kang, and Eternals‘ Kumail Nanjiani.
Details regarding the roles of the supporting cast are practically non-existent at this point. Despite the relative quietness coming out of the Obi-Wan Kenobi production lot, star Sung Kang opened up about what it was like being on set. In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Kang detailed his and the rest of the cast and crew’s excitement over appearing in the Star Wars show.
“The feeling that I get on set is every single crew member, you look in their eyes, and it’s like a kid going ‘I grew up watching Star Wars. Like, this is my dream to be here, to see one of the Star Wars characters, or the Darth Vader character or, you know, one of the Jedis walking around.’ No matter how old they are, it’s guys that do my makeup and stuff, and people who do the costumes, and all the set designers. There’s this feeling of legacy and it’s like everyone talks about history and why they feel so blessed to be here. So there’s this history, there’s this kind of shared spirit and this passion of the connective tissue is all these Star Wars characters. I used to dress up, you know, in these Halloween costumes. I had a Darth Vader one and a Luke Skywalker one. It was all put together with duct tape after a while. And the fact that I’m actually on set and they’re putting a Star Wars costume on me? Come on, dude. It’s like [you] pinch yourself.”
