Sunrise on the Reaping is looking peak! Fans online are losing their minds over the first trailer for the upcoming prequel to The Hunger Games.
In recent years, The Hunger Games has been really pushing to become a hallmark young adult franchise like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Not just a solid trilogy, but a world for dozens of stories to live in. This has come in the form of two prequel novels, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping, as well as a stage play.
While The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes came out to mixed, albeit positive skewing, reviews upon release, it’s clear that The Hunger Games is seeking a true box office smash with its next prequel film. And that vibe is truly delivered in the first trailer for Sunrise on the Reaping, which brings back everything fans loved from the original trilogy and more.
The Cast Of Sunrise On The Reaping
A truly all-star cast has been assembled for Sunrise on the Reaping. Many familiar faces to The Hunger Games fans will be getting new faces in the prequel (some of which you saw in the trailer!), such as Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket and Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman. Joining them are major names such as Jesse Plemmons, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, and Maya Hawke.
Sunrise on the Reaping and its novel focus on the 50th Hunger Games. For those that saw the original trilogy of The Hunger Games, the prequel follows the story of Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson), who served as the mentor to Peeta and Katniss in the 74th and 75th Hunger Games. Haymitch will be portrayed by relative unknown Joseph Zada, best known for his roles in We Were Liars and Invisible Boys.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will release November 20th, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of The Hunger Games Universe!
