‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’ Confirmed For Limited Theatrical Release

Christopher Reeve returns to the silver screen!

Super/Man is finally hitting theaters! The upcoming documentary about Christopher Reeve’s time as Superman has an official release date.

One of the most anticipated documentaries in recent memory is Super/Man, which follows the life and times of Christopher Reeve. This includes his humble beginnings, his spectacular heights as Superman, his tragic accident, and his miraculous activism following. While the film was shown to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, it has lacked any concrete release date for general audiences.

That theatrical release date has now officially been revealed. Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story will be shown in select theaters nationwide on September 21, 2024. The film will also have an encore screening on September 25, which is Christopher Reeve’s birthday. An international release is planned, though no release date has been set.

Christopher Reeve’s Superman Legacy

Christopher Reeve has gone down in history as one of the most beloved actors of all time. His time as Superman defined an entire generation and brought superheroes to the forefront of the mainstream. Super/Man isn’t just meant to celebrate his time as the hero, but his powerful journey before and after that faithful role.

“On behalf of not only Warner Bros., but also my colleagues at DC, HBO and CNN, it’s an honor to be a part of bringing Christopher Reeve and his singular legacy to audiences again,” Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt explained. “It was at this very studio where he made us all believe a man could fly, and this documentary reveals what made him a true hero, on- and off-screen.”

“Partnering with our friends at Fathom Events to deliver this very special film to the big screen was an opportunity we could not pass up. Everyone knows that Superman is a superhero, but I’m eager for audiences to discover the REAL superhero behind Superman. This film is an extraordinary story that takes a deep dive into the man Christopher Reeve really was and the courage he displayed.  We’re looking forward to working with our partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. to bring this inspiring film to theatres nationwide.”

Christopher Reeve’s legacy still affects the character of Superman to this day. DC Studios co-head James Gunn has stated multiple times that his take on the character was a massive influence on the upcoming Superman reboot. Hopefully, Super/Man will inspire general audiences to act even outside of the cape and trunks.
