Lex Luthor is officially coming to the Arrowverse via Supergirl and executive producer Robert Rovner recently commented on the iconic DC villain’s upcoming introduction to the small screen for the first time since Smallville.

Making a movie based on heroes like The Flash and Wonder Woman can sometimes take hundreds of millions of dollars and years to produce. Because of this, fans see plenty of their favorite comic book characters up on the big screen, but it can never be matched by the amount of DC icons that The CW has brought to the small screen, and there’s only more to come. Not only is Ruby Rose joining the Arrowverse as Batwoman, but Lex Luthor will also be joining the ever-growing universe via Supergirl.

Given that Lex Luthor is such an iconic Superman foil, it only makes sense for him to be introduced on that particular series if any. The character has yet to be cast but, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rovner opened up about his excitement for the character’s return to the small screen. This is what Rovner had to say about how Lex Luthor works his way into the story.

“It’s a big Lena story this season.”

Rovner continued to say this about the villain’s casting.

“[Lex] weaves into the narrative we’re telling. We’re excited about the possibilities of who might step into the iconic role.”

As mentioned above, Luthor last appeared on the small screen in The CW’s Smallville where he was famously played by Michael Rosenbaum. Before that, the villain had an iconic role in Superman: The Animated Series. Most recently, Luthor has been played by Jesse Eisenberg in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and briefly in Justice League.

As the list of exciting characters grows, we’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Supergirl and the entire Arrowverse as soon as more information becomes available.
