‘Supergirl’ Test Screening Reactions Remain Mixed As DC Changes The Ending Once More

Is Supergirl cooked?

Is Supergirl in trouble? Test screening reports suggest that DC Studios is struggling to find its vision for Milly Alcock’s blockbuster debut.

To many, Supergirl is the true test as to whether or not the DC Universe will sink or swim. It’s the first project, TV show or otherwise, not to be helmed by James Gunn. The project is also intrinsically tied to the franchise, with Milly Alcock appearing in last year’s Superman and almost certainly continuing on in the role in Man of Tomorrow.

However, things haven’t exactly been looking platinum for Supergirl. The first test screening reports suggested that the movie was good, but not great. Milly Alcock was cited as a highlight, while other supporting elements like Matthias Schoenaerts’ Krem of the Yellow Hills were considered rather disappointing. This suggests that the DC Universe’s second project will be less of a “bang” and more of an “eh.”

The Latest Supergirl Test Screening

The latest report comes from the World of Reel, which reveals that Supergirl is actually on its 8th test screening. While that number alone shouldn’t worry DC Universe fans, the actual changes should. The outlet states that Supergirl has already had three different endings. And while Milly Alcock’s performance is still amazing, the action set pieces around her are a different story.

“You want the truth? Reactions so far have been mixed – not disastrous, but not glowing either. Milly Alcock’s performance as Kara/Supergirl keeps being singled out as a major highlight. On the other hand, several sources mention that the action sequences don’t quite land – director Craig Gillespie doesn’t seem to have a full grasp on them – and that the main villain, Krem, feels underwhelming.”

Any test screening report like this is enough to give any fan the haunting chills of Captain America: Brave New World‘s ghost. However, with the comic Supergirl based so heavily on Kara’s emotional journey, it’s possible that Milly Alcock’s performance could be enough to right the sinking ship. It would simply take a rather herculean effort by the DC Studios team in such a short amount of time.

Supergirl is set to release on June 26, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
