Former Superman Actor Brandon Routh Reveals His Advice For David Corenswet

Brandon Routh has some advice!

Superman Brandon Routh David Corenswet Advice DC Universe

How can David Corenswet be the DC Universe’s perfect Superman? Brandon Routh tosses some sage advice over to his fellow Man of Steel!

Fans have been excited to see David Corenswet make his debut in the DC Universe, adding to a long line of phenomenal actors to portray Superman in live-action. One of those actors, Brandon Routh, was recently asked what his advice would be for Corenswet. Routh explained that his biggest piece of advice was to focus on the emotional aspect of the hero.

“I think the biggest thing for me about Superman is always recognizing the non-physical superpowers that he has,” Routh explained during a recent appearance at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024. “It can be cheesy to relate it to the ‘teach a man to fish’ story, but quite literally that is how I see it, and it’s very apropos to being the thing.”

“If you save people all the time, everywhere, maybe they never learn how to save themselves. That doesn’t mean that you don’t save them, but it just means that the teaching, the personality, the aspect, the human communication, the understanding Superman can give us of inclusion.”

Superman has always been a symbol of hope in the DC Universe, so it’s nice to hear that Brandon Routh has taken that idea to heart as the most important part of the character to try to impart to David Corenswet. Especially as rumors point to the newest version of the Man of Steel serving as an inspiration to other heroes, this is certainly advice Corenswet should heed.

Brandon Routh Breaks Down Superman’s Heart

Of course, a hero can’t be an inspiration without the values he holds near and dear to his heart. Continuing with the question, Brandon Routh explained that Superman is a being full of love and free of judgment. He ended his advice by stating that the simplest way for David Corenswet to play him is just to point out the world’s fundamental truths.

“To me Superman is pure love, he doesn’t judge,” Routh continued at the panel. “He has to make some hard choices and stop people from doing bad things, but my goal for Superman is that he’s the guy that everyone can be in their person…maybe without all the flying and all the other stuff. But he’s an example, the best of humanity, and he could teach us to do it, not just by his actions, but by calling out the truth.”

Even though Brandon Routh got a bit of a raw deal when it came to his own tenure as Superman, it’s good to see that the actor has a strong enough grasp on the hero to help guide David Corenswet’s journey through his own DC Universe. Hopefully, one day the two will be able to share the screen together and put the advice to the test in action!

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
