Was Superman able to fly high? The box office earnings for the recent DC Universe movie have seemingly been revealed in a new report.
There’s been a lot of discussion about the box office results for Superman. The project earned over $600 million (and counting) during its theatrical run. While certainly impressive for the modern box office, it pales in comparison to projects from the DC Universe’s hayday like Batman V. Superman and even Aquaman, the latter of which grossed a cool billion at the box office.
This has led to a lot of discourse about whether or not Superman was a success. Some say that the impressive box office gross against the reported $225 million budget would make it far-and-away a cash cow for Warner Bros. Others say that the film actually needed $800 million to even be profitable, and that any reports otherwise are just meant to artificially bolster this new DC Universe.
Did Superman Turn A Profit?
Luckily, it seems as though Superman may have done better at the box office than many fans might expect. Variety reports that the DC Universe’s debut film managed to earn a $125 million profit for Warner Bros. Discovery. This is higher than other box office smashes this summer, including Sinners ($60m in profits) and F1 ($34m).
It’s also important to note that this report on Superman‘s box office doesn’t include toy sales. Given how big of a cash cow DC Universe merch is, it’s likely that Superman made multiples of that $125 million figure once everything is totaled together. Hopefully future projects in the franchise can continue this level of quality!
