Insiders say the Superman project from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates will feature a Black Kal-El and may be set in the past.

After the news arrived earlier this year that J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates are working on a Superman reboot for Warner Bros., whispers sprung up suggesting that the film would feature a Black Kal-El, with many suggesting that Michael B. Jordan could step into the role. And now, The Hollywood Reporter has reportedly spoken to insiders who have confirmed that the project will focus on a Black Kal-El, as well as revealing an interesting detail about the story,

The report suggests that the studio is considering setting the film in the 20th century – although it’s not clear which specific decade. Regardless, it offers plenty of interesting opportunities for the Superman reboot. Another interesting detail in the report claims that Warner Bros. is committed to finding a Black director for the film since J.J. Abrams is only producing the project as part of his deal with the company.

What do you make of the new Superman details? Would you like to see the new version of Kal-El arrive in the 20th century? Are you excited for the project from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates? Sound-off in the comments below!

Superman was last seen in Justice League, here is the synopsis:

“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut is expected to hit WarnerMedia’s HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Kal-El in J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Superman reboot, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
