The Superman and Lois premiere on The CW revealed a surprise suit for Tyler Hoechlin’s Man of Steel, calling back to the Max Fleischer cartoons.

After months of waiting, the Superman and Lois series has finally premiered on The CW, revealing a new take on Clark Kent and Lois Lane as they tackle the challenges of being parents in the Arrowverse. But one moment in the series shocked fans as it called back to both Action Comics #1 and the classic Max Fleischer cartoons by delivering a stunning new suit.

The Superman and Lois scene saw the series call back to Tyler Hoechlin’s first few outings as Superman in the Arrowverse, revealing a scene ripped straight from the pages of Action Comics #1 as he lifts a large green car overhead, saving a young boy in the process. When the boy says he likes the suit, Hoechlin’s hero says “thanks, my Mom made it”. Oh, Martha. But keen-eyed fans will instantly recognize the black, red and yellow chest emblem on the light blue suit is taken straight from the Max Fleischer cartoons from the 1940s. The touching moment perfectly captures the very essence of Superman, while also paying homage to what’s come before it. If this is what Superman and Lois has achieved in its premiere, it looks like fans are in for a treat with the rest of the season. Take a look at Tyler Hoechlin in the Max Fleischer suit below.
