Superman & Lois star Elizabeth Tulloch recently opened up about what sets the upcoming series apart from other iterations of the two characters.
While fans have seen a number of different takes on the Superman mythos over the years, Superman and Lois will explore something which has never been properly looked at in live-action, the pair dealing with children. Sure, Superman Returns had the unsurprising twist that Lois Lane and Richard White’s son Jason was actually Clark’s – but it didn’t show off what the Kent/Lane household looked like or how the pair cope with day-to-day parenting. In a DC FanDome panel discussing the upcoming series, Elizabeth Tulloch explained that both Clark and Lois will struggle with the dedication to their respective careers as well as their family.
“But I do think that it’s one of the things that you know especially about Lois is that she doesn’t really compromise her sense of self, or her goals and so I think one thing that I think she butts up against and obviously Superman does too is, you know, being really dedicated to our career. We’re doing this for good and we believe in what we’re doing, and Lois wants to change the world with words and Superman does it with his power but also, you know, how about the kids? How good can we really be [at] your job, you have two boys who are hormonal and who would each have very different needs.”
Elizabeth Tulloch went on to reveal that she found the relationship between the two Kent sons and their parents the most compelling part of the scripts she’s read so far. Tulloch also explained that the boys will be teenagers in the show and that they’re also “going through a lot.” Most recently, the Superman and Lois star revealed the first logo for the series, which has made a few changes to the iconic ‘S’ logo. Take a look at Elizabeth Tulloch discussing the scripts for The CW show below.
“So, I think that’s part of what, for me anyway was really compelling and was so exciting when I found out that it was going to be older kids like teenagers because they are. It is so complicated, and they are going to be going through a lot and you know I’ve read two scripts now and I find that the storyline with the sons, really, really compelling.”
