Superman: Legacy is set to take place in a DC Universe already filled to the brim with other heroes. The film’s director James Gunn has finally addressed the worry that there may be too many characters.
Superman films are usually an isolated affair, with no other heroes appearing alongside the Man of Steel outside of crossover films. James Gunn appears to be taking the opposite approach for Superman: Legacy to kick off his new DC Universe, casting multiple established heroes such as Green Lantern and Metamorpho. Many fans have wondered if this may lead to the film being overstuffed, a fear Gunn can’t seem to understand:
Despite being the film to rocket Judd Apatow into being the king of early 2000s rom-coms, The 40-Year-Old Virgin had a packed cast with everyone from Steve Carell to Kevin Hart. Despite this, Carell never strayed from the spotlight. Given James Gunn has experience grappling with much larger casts with Guardians of the Galaxy, fans should rest assured that Superman: Legacy will be an amazing start to the DC Universe.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
