‘Superman: Legacy’ Director James Gunn Shoots Down Michael Rooker Casting Rumor

A wrong Rooker rumor!

Michael Rooker Sam Lane Superman Legacy Yondu Guardians of the Galaxy DC Universe James Gunn

One of the most recent rumors surrounding Superman: Legacy is that Michael Rooker would be playing General Sam Lane, the father of Lois Lane, in the DC Universe. According to director James Gunn, these rumors are less than accurate.

This rumor once more stems from insider Jeff Sneider, who also recently confirmed that Bradley Cooper was in the running to play Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy. This led many to ask James Gunn directly about Michael Rooker’s involvement in the project, the director immediately shooting down the idea that the actor would play General Sam Lane in the comments of an Instagram post.

Of course, this doesn’t mean Michael Rooker won’t be returning to the DC Universe. Rooker is one of James Gunn’s most ubiquitous collaborators, appearing in almost every film the director has made. It’s almost a guarantee he’ll appear in Superman: Legacy, though what role he’d play other than General Sam Lane is yet to be seen. Personally, my vote is Perry White!

Superman’s DC Universe Future

Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world. The choice to focus on the early years of his career is a bold move that could potentially breathe new life into the character and appeal to a younger generation of fans.

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
