Pre-production on Superman: Legacy has begun in earnest, meaning the trunks David Corenswet will wear as the Man of Steel are currently being sewed. The film’s director and DC Studios co-chair James Gunn teases a classic emblem for the costume.
James Gunn has never been a stranger to using social media to speak about his upcoming projects, and never has that been more true than his time at DC Studios and Superman: Legacy. Gunn recently took to the Twitter alternative Bluesky to post some images of the Max Fleischer Superman costume, potentially hinting at an inspiration for David Corenswet’s Superman suit:
James Gunn has previously referenced Max Fleischer’s Superman as an example of adapting comic characters well, pointing out that was the incarnation that gave the Man of Steel the ability to fly. While this far from confirms David Corenswet’s Superman suit will don the Fleischer emblem, it should assure fans the character is in good hands if the head of DC Studios holds such a fond place for that version of the character.
Superman’s DC Universe Future
Superman: Legacy is a much-anticipated project, given that Clark Kent has been an integral part of the DC Universe for over 80 years, with various iterations and adaptations across different media. The movie promises to explore the character’s origins and his struggles to balance his dual identities as Clark Kent and Superman while fighting off villains and saving the world.
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
