Is James Gunn making a major mistake with Superman? The latest rumor for the DC Universe film claims that the project lacks a clear plot.

The rumor mill for Superman has been one of the most interesting in a while — not just because it’s the start of a new DC Universe, but because every rumor seems to bring a different focus. Early reports suggested Superman would be involved in a Middle Eastern conflict, set photos teased a mysterious new villain, and the first poster featured a strange floating orb. Despite all the noise, director James Gunn has made it clear that Lex Luthor is still the film’s central antagonist.

This has left die-hard fans trying to make sense of the ever-changing Superman rumor mill. No single plotline has emerged as the definitive focus of the film, and with James Gunn releasing as little footage as possible, it’s unlikely that the true storyline of the DC Universe movie will be clear until it hits theaters in a few months.

What Is The Plot Of Superman?

However, there is one rumor that seeks to be the rumor to end all rumors. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello reveals that fans can’t piece together Superman‘s plot because there IS no plot. Rather, James Gunn has strung together a series of vignettes attempting to adapt the “Twelve Labors of Superman” into the brand new DC Universe.

“The Superman movie is very much like All-Star Superman — no real central plot, just Lex scheming in different ways to kill Superman or get him locked up. A kaiju, a black hole in the sky, a conflict between nations, a clone — he throws everything at him. He also turns the public against Superman and gets him arrested.”

This certainly sounds like an interesting take on a Superman film, with James Gunn reportedly focusing more on how the characters impact the broader DC Universe than on their relationship with one another. It also helps explain the various disconnected plot rumors floating around online. But with no solid information expected anytime soon, it’s ultimately up to fans to decide what they believe.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
