Is Superman already getting a sequel? One of the stars of the new DC Universe has seemingly confirmed that a follow-up is already in development.
Superman is shaping up to be one of the biggest superhero box office events of all time. The project has gotten an absolutely historic marketing push by Warner Bros. Discovery in order to try to start their DC Universe on the right foot. And while that far from guarantees success, early tracking numbers suggest that the Man of Steel is set to make one massive splash at the box office.
This has led many to wonder when or if a sequel will be greenlit. After all, the current Hollywood system seems to take years upon years to put any project into development, leading to trilogies that span upwards of a decade when they used to be finished in 5-6 years. This is especially a problem in the DC Universe, where most projects are one-and-done, and even mega-success stories like The Batman take over three years to lock down a script.
Is A Superman Sequel In Development?
Luckily, it seems as though development is moving faster than a speeding bullet. Interviews with the Superman cast have been dropping hot and heavy over the past few days, which has led to a lot of juicy details dropping at the eleventh hour. Perhaps the most interesting as come from Wendell Pierce, who plays Perry White in the DC Universe. When asked if he was able to swipe something form the set, the actor seemingly confirmed that a sequel may be on the way.
“I actually did not,” Pierce told Collider when asked if he kept a memento from production “I was thinking about that. I did not take anything…It’s a hot set, you don’t want to mess it up because, you know, the sequel is – never mind.”
Of course, given most roles in superhero project come attached with all-encompassing projects, it’s possible that Wendell Pierce is simply signed on for a possible sequel without plans officially being in the works. Though given how interconnected the DC Universe is set to be, it’s also possible that he’s going to be involved in James Gunn’s mystery project that seems to be connected to Superman, even if it’s not an official continuation.
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
