‘Supernatural’ Prequel In The Works At CW With Jensen Ackles

Like its main characters, the franchise refuses to die!

A new Supernatural prequel is in the works at the CW, titled The Winchesters with star Jensen Ackles.

After fifteen years on the air, Supernatural came to an end. The ending of the show was initially delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic but non the less saw its conclusion late last year. Star Jensen Ackles, however, is not entirely done with the franchise.

In the show, Jensen Ackels played Dean Winchester who was the younger of the two brothers the show focused on. According to a new report, the actor is set to executive produce and narrate an upcoming prequel show for the CW. The show will simply be called The Winchesters.

According to the report, the Supernatural prequel will center on the Winchester Brothers’ parents, John and Mary. In the original show, it was Mary’s death that set John Winchester on a path of revenge against demons. In the show, Mary was played by Samantha Smith and Amy Gumenick. John was played primarily by The Walking Dead star Jeffery Dean Morgan, most notably in the first season, and became a reoccurring character in others. But the people at the CW seem to think that the two have more of a story to tell.

According to the report, the series will focus on how the two met and how they put everything on the line to save their love and the world. Star Jensen Ackles revealed the inspiration behind the show:

“After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’ When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
