Taika Waititi has shared another update regarding his upcoming Star Wars film.
Taika Waititi is a busy man, who is currently promoting both Lightyear and Thor: Love and Thunder. Waititi is also a star of HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death, and has another film coming out later this year. Waititi is also set to helm the next theatrically-released Star Wars film.
The Hiatus Continues…
Taika Waititi has recently teased that his Star Wars film will follow new characters, but also shared that he’s still developing the story. Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy hinted that Waititi’s Star Wars film would still arrive in December 2023, but based on another comment from Waititi in an interview with TheWrap, that doesn’t seem possible at this point based on his schedule:
“Not this year. I’m going to be in New Zealand from August until the end of the year with ‘Our Flag Means Death’ and ‘Time Bandits’ and during that time I will still be writing. I’m still trying to figure out what the story is.”
Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, and Russell Crowe.
Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
