Taika Waititi Reveals How A Taylor Swift Meme Inspired The Goats In ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’

AHHHHHHHHHH!

Taika Waititi Thor Love And Thunder Taylor Swift

Thor: Love And Thunder director Taika Waititi has revealed how a Taylor Swift meme inspired the noise the goats made in the film.

One of the more bizarre things to make its debut in Thor: Love and Thunder was a pair of giant magical goats. In the movie, they are a gift from a race of aliens who thank Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy for driving away an army of invaders. The primary noise that they made, however, is an ungodly loud yet hilarious scream.

The Meme That Inspired It!

While speaking to Insider, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi revealed why the goats made this noise and how a Taylor Swift meme inspired it:

“They were never meant to be screaming. The goats were always going to be in there because they are in the comics, but we didn’t know how they would sound. Then someone in post-production found this meme of a Taylor Swift song that has screaming goats in it. I didn’t even know that existed. One of the vendors that was making the CG goats, they just added the Taylor Swift song ‘I Knew You Were Trouble,’ but the fan-made one with the goat sounds, and we just thought it was so funny. It was just a shot of how the CG creatures were coming along, it wasn’t meant for the film or anything, it was just an update. And the screams were freakin’ awesome.”

The meme that Taika Waititi is referring to comes from the Taylor Swift song I Knew You Were Trouble. Back in 2013, someone opted to cut the music video together with the sound of a goat screaming. The video has over 5M views on YouTube.

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
