Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi revealed he doesn’t want to release the deleted scenes from the film.
Taika Waititi has become one of the most sought-after directors in Hollywood due to his success with Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, with the latter earning him an Oscar. Following Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi will move on to develop other high-profile projects, including the next Star Wars film.
During the press tour for Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi has shared his honest thoughts about a few things. The filmmaker dismissed the idea of a director’s cut and has now discussed his dislike for deleted scenes.
It’s been revealed that Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, Peter Dinklage’s Eitri, and Lena Headey all had scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder that were ultimately cut from the film. In an interview with Insider, Waititi revealed he has no plans of sharing the Thor: Love and Thunder deleted scenes and explained why:
“I’m not going to give you a moment because this is my way of telling you, like, people say, “I can’t wait for the deleted scenes with those actors.” I don’t want people to see the deleted scenes because they’re deleted for a reason: They aren’t good enough. [Laughs.] The scenes were not in the movie and that’s it.”
Will Marvel Studios Still Release the Deleted Scenes?
While Taika Waititi says he isn’t a fan of deleted scenes, it doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t still see them. Thor: Ragnarok‘s home release included several deleted scenes, so there’s still hope that we might still see what was planned for Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, Peter Dinklage’s Eitri, and Lena Headey’s unknown character in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the Thor solo film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
