Taron Egerton discussed rumors about playing Wolverine in the MCU X-Men reboot.

After Hugh Jackman officially retired his Adamantium claws as Wolverine in Logan, along with The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox, some have thrown out ideas regarding who should play the new Wolverine in the new MCU reboot of the X-Men. One common choice amongst fans is Taron Egerton.

Taron Egerton, who is known for his breakout role as Eggsy in the Kingsman film series as well as his Golden Globe award-winning performance in Rocketman has been long-rumored to replace Hugh Jackman as the MCU’s Wolverine, whether or not it’d be in a new X-Men reboot or a separate film. At this time, nothing is concrete, but that hasn’t stopped the rumors of Taron Egerton taking over from being a discussion amongst fans.

On BBC’s The One show, Taron Egerton touched on the rumors, and denied any involvement with the MCU as the new Wolverine in an X-Men reboot:

“There’s no truth in it at all. There’s no truth in it. It would be, obviously, really exciting, but I don’t know.”

That’s not to say that Taron Egerton isn’t interested in the idea. He acknowledged the following:

“Yeah, of course. That’s like playing Bond. It would be exciting to play a role where you play to by such a huge audience. Those movies are the most watched movies in the world. It’s a great thrill and it’s a great part. But there’s no truth in it. Very flattering, though.”

Taron Egerton actually starred in a film alongside Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman in Dexter Fletcher’s Eddie the Eagle. Although he claims that there is nothing to the rumors regarding him being cast as part of the MCU’s new take on the X-Men, the fact that he would be interested in playing the character is quite exciting.

Wolverine was last seen on the big screen in the Academy Award-nominated film, Logan. Here is the synopsis:

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

Directed by James Mangold, Logan stars Hugh Jackman, Sir Patrick Stewart, Dafne Keen, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, Eriq LaSalle, Elizabeth Rodriguez, and Boyd Holbrook. Logan is available on Digital HD, Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
