Is Scarlett Johansson the big bad of The Batman? A new rumor gives fans some insight on who the villain will be in the long-awaited sequel.
One of the biggest pieces of news to come out of The Batman franchise in years was the reveal that Scarlett Johansson was circling a role in the sequel. It’s news that has been verified by quite a few outlets, even if it’s still technically a rumor. However, those outlets also declined to state what role she’d be playing in the upcoming film.
Given The Batman‘s director Matt Reeves teased that the sequel will do something that hasn’t been done before in the character’s silver screen catalogue, many assumed that Scarlett Johansson would be the villain. The main speculation going around the rumor mill is that she’d be playing Phantasm, a newer addition to the Caped Crusader’s rogues gallery whose twist won’t be spoiled here.
Who Is The Villain In The Batman Part II?
However, a new rumor suggests that Scarlett Johansson may not be playing the villain after all. Scooper DanielRPK revealed that The Batman will, in fact, have a man playing the antagonist in the sequel. And while the role hasn’t been locked down yet, an offer has been sent out to an A-List actor.
Of course, it’s still possible that The Batman sequel has two villains: one played by Scarlett Johansson and the other played by a man. One major theory is that the film will adapt The Long Halloween, suggesting that at least one villain present in the film could be Calendar Man. Though with the movie shooting next year, it won’t be long until the truth comes out.
The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe.
