The Penguin may not be the last fans see of The Batman universe! It’s now been confirmed that another spin-off series is in the works from Matt Reeves.
The Batman did something strange to the psychology of the DC fan. Even though a shiny new universe is being built right across the fence, the internet is frothing at the mouth for more from Matt Reeves. That hunger was mostly quelled with The Penguin, a spin-off series coming to Max in the next few weeks.
However, it’s now been confirmed that The Penguin isn’t the only spin-off Matt Reeves and his team are cooking up. According to a recent interview with EW, at least one more series is planned for The Batman universe, with more continuing to be explored as the franchise continues to grow.
How The Penguin Connects To The Batman
DC fans seem to be in store for the homework Marvel fans are always complaining about. When speaking about how The Penguin series relates to the universe Matt Reeves created, it was confirmed that the spin-off series will connect directly to the upcoming sequel to The Batman.
“We are the bridge between the two films,” The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc explained. “We’re going almost directly into the second film Matt [Reeves] has planned.”
On one hand, it’s a shame that fans of The Batman won’t be able to fully enjoy the sequel without pouring eight hours of their time into a series focused around The Penguin. On the other hand, it’s also important that Matt Reeves is cutting out the fluff when it comes to his universe for the Caped Crusader. Fans wouldn’t want the next spin-off to end up like the ill-fated GCPD show!
